ARDEN, N.C. (WLOS) — North Carolina's Insurance Commissioner will be in Asheville on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the agency's insurance camp in South Asheville.
More than 11 insurance carriers with agents will be on-site to answer policy-holders questions, including:
- Allstate
- American Family/HomeSite Insurance
- Auto-Owners
- Cincinnati Insurance
- Erie Insurance
- National General
- NC Farm Bureau
- Selective
- State Farm
- Travelers
- Universal Property
The site in front of Lowe's along Airport Road, or 19 McKenna Road, Arden, N.C., also has FEMA representatives who can talk with victims and take applications for emergency cash and assistance for those impacted by Helene.

You must present proof of identity and residence before assistance can be paid.
FEMA provided the following additional information to News 13:
- FEMA has already approved disaster assistance for more than 94,000 households.
- FEMA provides money directly to survivors to help them pay for a temporary place to live, make home repairs, replace personal property, pay for lodging expenses, and assist with other needs not covered by insurance.
- FEMA is providing temporary hotel stays to more than 2,800 households. This means more than 6,000 survivors are temporarily in hotels, not shelters. In this Transitional Sheltering Assistance program, FEMA pays hotels directly for eligible survivors.
- FEMA has directly provided more than $133 million to survivors for serious needs, housing assistance and other needs. More money can be provided as survivors stay in touch with FEMA about their needs, such as by providing contractor estimates for rebuilding.
- FEMA is providing temporary hotel stays to more than 2,800 households. This means more than 6,000 survivors are temporarily in hotels, not shelters. In this Transitional Sheltering Assistance program, FEMA pays hotels directly for eligible survivors.
