Another bar in Greenville, South Carolina, has announced it will close due to rising costs and liquor liability insurance.

"It’s with a very heavy and broken heart that we must announce that the sun is finally setting on the Velo Fellow," the bar announced on Saturday.

The Velo Fellow decided not to renew the lease due to the rising costs of rent and liquor liability insurance.

After nearly 14 years of operation, the bar will close permanently on Dec. 8.

In 2017, the state passed a bill, called the dram shop bill, requiring businesses that serve alcohol to have a $1 million liability policy. This has caused insurance rates to skyrocket, leaving bars and music venues to shut down.

In 2023, a grassroots movement called the SC Venue Crisis started raising awareness in hopes lawmakers will make a change.
