After a month-long dry spell, the rain is back, and it’s causing further damage to homes hit the hardest by Helene.
Tarps can only do so much when some of our counties are reporting more than half a foot of rain.
Even with several weeks of good weather, the sheer number of homes that need work means that there’s a huge backlog for contractors to work through.
A question many people have been wondering since the rain started is what to do if your roof leaks.
If you’re insured, you should check with your insurance to see if they cover any of the damage.

State Farm says if your roof has storm damage from Hurricane Helene and rain leaks through and causes damage inside of your home, you are covered.
But Progressive and Allstate say it’s all dependent on your policy.
We asked if there were policies that did not cover damage, and they said they could not give answers to hypothetical claims questions.
Since FEMA is still in our area, would they be able to help with something like this?
FEMA says they are not able to help with any new damage caused after the hurricane. The only thing they can help cover is damage that happened specifically during the time of the storm.
